Young People

Fruitbowl is a youth group and information service for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) young people of secondary school age in Sheffield. We run a youth group on a Friday evening in the city centre and can provide one-to-one support to any young person who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered, or think they might be, who needs to chat to a worker about anything.

Fruitbowl isn’t about putting a label on yourself, it’s just a place where you can guarantee people will treat you with respect no matter what your sexuality or gender identity is. It is a place to meet other LGBT young people and have fun – it’s mostly a social group but we do lots of interesting things like arts and crafts activities, making films, drama and going on trips and residentials. Fruitbowl members decide what we do, so if you come along you’ll get a say too.

Not every young LGBT person wants to join Fruitbowl but if you are exploring your sexuality or gender identity and want to chat to somebody about it, then Fruitbowl is a good place to contact. The youth workers are all trained and have lots of experience of working with LGBT young people so probably have a good understanding of what you are going through.
